Preliminary Task - Soundscape - A Busy Bus Ride (#6)

My project is called, "A Busy Bus Ride" which is a soundscape showing what inside a busy bus can sound like. I used sounds of footsteps overlapping, bus arriving and leaving, bus door opening and closing, bus breaking, a phone ringing and someone answering, "Hello?", honking, general chatter from inside the bus, and a background music of a soft jazz from YouTube. I mixed all these sounds to make a story of a bus during rush hour.
For my project for soundscape, I did a busy bus ride. I played with many sounds from footsteps to the bus honking on the street. Although, I wish I used personal sounds instead of the sounds I've used from CapCut. This project sparked my creativity and was really fun to do. I did this project by myself, since it was a quick 20-30 minute project to do. I started this project during class but when I opened it at home, I lost all my progress! I thought I saved everything but I guess not. I finished or re-did the project at home which too me a extra 20 minutes but I'm not upset entirely because it gave me a chance to open my mind better and add sounds I wasn't originally going to use. As a result, it helped me better my project and make it sound better.

Preliminary Task - Extension Project (#5)

Cheater, Cheater, Pumpkin Eater

The color scheme reflects the mood of a comedy because of the bright colors; our color palette is yellow, orange, white, pink, and subtle colors of blue. The tagline, "Whatever happens in the darkness, always comes to light", that I choose suggest the plot of the 30-second film to the audience, of Jalen cheating on a homework assignment. The practice will help with my Cambridge project because it will make me aware of what different color schemes and framing can suggest to the audience and what they make my videos/picture project.

The mood board shows our setting, lighting costumes, and props. In our video we used our school hallway as our setting, and school lighting, our school uniform for costumes, and bookbags and papers/pencil as props. The mise-en-scène and sound choices in my mini-story connect with the promotional materials because they show the comedy and school environment that we filmed in. It can improve by using more lighting features and different angles to project different meanings. Our 30-second video gives the audience the feeling of excitement and joyful which adds on to the comedic mood that we, my group, wished to give.

Preliminary Task - Cheater, Cheater, Pumpkin Eater - 30 second video (#4)

Today, September 10, 2025, we had an assignment to make a thirty second video, with no dialogue, of a story. Today my group (Jody, Jalen, Veronica, and I) made a video about Jalen needing the answers to homework he had forgotten about. He got the answers from Jody then cheated off of her. Veronica was our camera(wo)man and one of our directors. I was the second director, secondary actor, and editor. Jalen was our main actor; Jody was another secondary actor.

Editing this project was fun because I was able to play around with sound effects and background music. It was pretty cool to start my journey of editing in our media studies class with my group. Before cutting down the video, the video was about a minute long with our biggest shot being when my teacher, Ms. Ortiz, caught Jalen cheating and walking towards his direction; the shot was 15 seconds. My biggest challenge of editing this video was making sure that each sound effect lined up where it needed to be and that it gave the comedic effect that my group and I were aiming for. Editing this video took about 30 minutes, the main factor that took the longest being the sound effects and lining up the shots. This project was really fun and enjoyable. It made my group laugh a lot while shooting this video.

If there was something I would redo is the last scene of Ms. Ortiz walking down to Jalen. I would've changed that to two shots instead of one to show the shock of Jalen seeing Ms. Ortiz. Experimenting with shots and composition helps me when I film my 2-minute opening, giving me experience with the different shots, editing, and angles. This will help me plan for the Cambridge project because it will give me practice and trial and error for the 2-minute film opening. Overall, this assignment taught me that I can practice the many skills of planning for the final product, production, and overcoming the challenges of film.
